[전남광주/CTN]최영준 기자= 정광선 전남광주통합특별시 보건복지본부장은 "이번 기숙사 준공은 단순히 주거 지원을 넘어 의료·복지 분야 전문인력의 장기 근무와 지역 정착을 이끄는 또 하나의 디딤돌이다"라며 "2026년 12월 준공을 앞둔 신안 3호 기숙사까지 차질 없이 완료해 의료·복지 환경을 개선하고 주민에게 안정적 의료·복지 서비스를 제공하겠다"라고 말했다.
이어 "지역 농촌·섬 지역이 더욱 건강하고 활기찬 삶의 터전이 되도록 의료·복지 환경 개선에 최선을 다하겠다"라고 덧붙였다.
전남광주통합특별시는 농어촌·섬 지역 의료·복지 인력난 해소와 정주여건 개선을 위해 추진한 '농어촌 간호인력 등 주거지원 사업'의 두 번째 결실로 진도 '보배리움 기숙사'를 준공했다고 발표했다. '간호·복지인력 기숙사 건립사업'은 전국 최초로 광역소멸대응기금 66억 원 등 총사업비 181억 원을 들여 2022년부터 추진하고 있는 핵심 사업으로, 진도·영암·신안 3곳에 20~30실 규모의 전용 기숙사를 건립하는 내용이다.
그동안 도서·농어촌 지역은 열악한 주거 환경 탓에 의료·복지 전문인력 구인난이 지속되어 왔으며, 이는 지역 주민의 의료 공백과 복지 서비스 질 저하로 이어져 왔다. 이번에 준공된 진도 기숙사는 단순한 거주 공간을 넘어 전문인력이 정착해 장기 근무를 이어가는 보금자리 역할을 함으로써 지역 주민에게 안정적인 의료·복지 서비스를 제공하는 마중물이 될 것으로 전망된다.
아울러 전문인력과 청장년층의 지역 유입 및 안착은 인구 소멸 위기에 직면한 농어촌 지역에 새로운 활력을 불어넣고 지역 경제 활성화에 기여하는 선순환 구조를 이끌 것으로 기대된다. 전남광주통합특별시는 향후 예정된 신안 기숙사 완공까지 차질 없이 추진해 농어촌 복지 인프라를 대폭 강화할 방침이라고 밝혔다.

The 'Nursing and Welfare Personnel Dormitory Construction Project' is a core project promoted since 2022 with a total project cost of 18.1 billion won, including 6.6 billion won from the Regional Extinction Response Fund for the first time in the nation, building dedicated dormitories with 20 to 30 rooms in Jindo, Yeongam, and Shinan.
Island and rural areas have suffered from a continuous shortage of medical and welfare professionals due to poor living environments, which has led to medical gaps for local residents and a decline in the quality of welfare services. Accordingly, this Jindo dormitory is expected to play a role as a 'strong nest' where professionals settle down and continue long-term service beyond a simple residential space, and become a priming water to provide stable medical and welfare services to local residents.
In addition, the inflow and settlement of professionals and young adults are expected to inject new vitality into rural areas facing a population extinction crisis and become a driving force leading a 'virtuous cycle structure of regional development' that contributes to economic revitalization.
