[영천/CTN]이수현 기자= 김병삼 영천시장은 "과거의 아픔을 외면하지 않고 역사적 진실을 기억하는 것은 오늘을 살아가는 우리의 책임"이라며 "올해 3기 진실·화해를 위한 과거사정리위원회가 출범한 만큼 희생자와 유가족들의 진실규명과 명예회복이 충실히 이루어지기를 기대하고, 과거의 비극이 되풀이되지 않도록 평화와 화해의 가치를 다음 세대에 전하는 데 최선을 다하겠다"라고 밝혔다.
영천시(시장 김병삼)는 임고강변공원 내 민간인희생자 위령탑에서 영천유족회 주관으로 '제17회 한국전쟁 전후 영천 민간인희생자 합동위령제'를 엄수했다고 발표했다. 이번 위령제는 한국전쟁 전후 억울하게 희생된 민간인 영령의 넋을 기리고 유가족들의 아픔을 진심으로 위로하고자 추진됐다.
유족과 관계자 등 100여 명이 참석한 가운데 열린 행사는 추모사와 헌화, 유족회장 인사말 등으로 진행됐으며, 참석자들은 안타깝게 스러져간 이들의 넋을 추모하고 평화의 가치를 재확인했다. 김만덕 유족회장은 위령제를 통해 유가족들이 상처를 서로 보듬고 역사적 교훈을 되새기는 계기가 되기를 희망했다.
영천시는 임고강변공원 내 위령탑을 중심으로 지속적인 추모 공간 관리와 정비에 힘쓰고 있으며, 진실·화해를위한과거사정리위원회 활동에 발맞추어 희생자들의 명예회복 및 진실규명이 원활히 추진될 수 있도록 다각적인 행정 지원을 이어갈 계획이라고 밝혔다.
