[경산/CTN]이수현 기자= 이도형 경산시 부시장은 "외국인 유학생은 단순히 대학에서 공부만 하는 학생을 넘어 지역사회의 중요한 구성원이자 미래의 인적자원인 만큼, 지역사회에 안정적으로 정착하고 함께 성장할 수 있는 환경을 조성하는 것이 중요하다"라며 "외국인 유학생과 지역주민 모두가 안심하고 생활할 수 있는 지역사회를 만들어 나가겠다"라고 밝혔다.
경산시(시장 조현일)는 지난 10월 13일 경산시청 본관 소회의실에서 외국인 유학생과 지역사회의 상생 방안을 논의하기 위한 '경산시-대학 관계자 지역현안 간담회'를 개최했다고 발표했다. 이번 간담회는 이도형 부시장을 비롯한 시 관계자들과 관내 10개 대학 외국인 유학생 담당자들이 참석해 현장의 애로사항을 공유하고 실효성 있는 대책을 강구하기 위해 기획됐다.
13개 대학, 10만여 명의 학생이 상주하는 교육도시 경산은 최근 외국인 유학생이 1만 5천여 명으로 늘어나 전체의 약 15%를 차지하고 있다. 이에 따라 지역 주민과의 사회적·문화적 갈등을 줄이고 생활·안전 관리 사각지대를 해소해야 한다는 목소리가 꾸준히 제시되어 왔다.
경산시는 외국인 주민과 유학생이 함께 참여하는 '외국인 치안봉사단'을 시범 운영하여 밀집 지역 야간 순찰과 범죄예방 활동을 펼치는 한편, 경산자인단오제 및 갓바위축제 등 지역 대표 행사에 유학생의 참여를 유도해 소통과 화합을 도모할 계획이라고 밝혔다.
