[법무부/CTN]가요진 기자= 이진수 법무부장관 직무대행은 "소년을 바꾸는 힘은 담장 안의 교육과 담장 밖의 가족, 이들을 포기하지 않는 우리 사회의 관심에서 나온다"라며 "소년수형자가 성인범죄를 배우는 것이 아니라 다시 공부하고 책임 있는 시민으로 성장할 수 있도록 교육교화를 더욱 강화해 나가겠다"라고 밝혔다.
캠프에 참여한 소년수형자 A군은 "엄마가 나에게 바라는 게 잔소리가 아니라 걱정이었다는 걸 처음 알았고, 검정고시에 꼭 합격해서 약속을 지키고 싶다"라고 소감을 전했다.
법무부(장관 직무대행 차관 이진수)는 9월 29일 서울남부교도소 만델라 소년학교에서 소년수형자와 가족이 함께 참여하는 '부모-자녀 관계 회복 캠프'를 새롭게 개선해 시범운영했다고 발표했다. '다시 만나는 우리가족'을 주제로 열린 이번 캠프는 소년수형자와 부모가 함께 바라는 가족의 모습을 영화 포스터로 그리고, 대화 연습을 통해 실천 과제를 정하는 등 경청과 격려 중심의 과정으로 진행됐다.
이번 프로그램은 한국 가톨릭 교정사목 전국 협의회(회장 유정수 신부)와 수원교구의 후원으로 뜻을 더했다. 가톨릭 교정사목 측은 2027년 서울 세계청년대회(WYD)를 앞두고 담장 안 청소년들을 격려하기 위해 2026년부터 3년간 총 6천만 원의 후원금을 전달하기로 약속했으며, 전달된 후원금은 교육 환경 조성 및 자립 지원 등에 활용될 예정이다.
법무부는 촉법소년 연령 하향 논의 등 소년범죄 대응이 주요 과제로 부각된 시점에서 처벌을 넘어 교육과 교화를 통한 성장을 돕는 소년교정 기능을 한층 강화할 방침이다. 향후 소년수형자의 연령·성별·발달단계 특성에 맞춘 맞춤형 진로지도와 교육 프로그램을 꾸준히 확대해 나갈 계획이라고 밝혔다.

This program gained meaningful support from the Catholic Correction Pastoral Committee of Korea (President Fr. Yoo Jeong-soo) and the Diocese of Suwon. Ahead of the 2027 World Youth Day in Seoul, the Catholic correctional ministry agreed to donate a total of 60 million won over three years starting from 2026 to encourage youth inside the walls, which will be used for establishing educational environments and supporting self-reliance.
The Ministry of Justice plans to further strengthen juvenile correctional functions that aid healthy growth through education and rehabilitation beyond punishment, especially amid growing discussions on lowering the age of juvenile offenders.
