정읍시·에즈큐리스, 바이오 신약 협력 업무협약 체결

국가독성과학연구소 전북첨단바이오연구본부와 협약 체결
아스트라제네카 공동연구 기업 연계해 첨단바이오 산업 전환 추진

[정읍/CTN]최동주 기자= 이학수 정읍시장은 "'정읍에서 세계로'라는 방향 아래 우수 바이오기업을 지속해서 유치하겠다"라며 "기업과 지역 연구기관의 협력을 통해 정읍에서 세계시장으로 이어지는 신약개발과 사업화 성과가 창출될 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다"라고 말했다.

전북특별자치도 정읍시는 바이오기업 ㈜에즈큐리스가 9월 10일 국가독성과학연구소 전북첨단바이오연구본부와 바이오 R&D 및 사업화 협력을 위한 업무협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

단백질 간 상호작용 기반 신약 개발 기업인 에즈큐리스는 지난 6월 글로벌 제약사 아스트라제네카와 공동연구 계약을 발표한 바 있다.

이번 협약은 에즈큐리스의 신약 개발 역량과 정읍시의 전임상·연구 인프라를 연계해 전북연구개발특구 내 신약 개발 거점을 구축하기 위해 추진됐다.

정읍시는 '전북첨단바이오 부스트업 플랫폼 구축사업'을 바탕으로 기존 농생명 바이오 중심 구조에서 첨단바이오 산업으로의 체질 개선을 시도하고 있다.

시는 에즈큐리스의 지역 거점 정착을 지원하고 지역 연구기관과의 전임상·사업화 협력 체계를 확대할 방침이다.

정읍시는 바이오기업 유치와 연계한 지역 맞춤형 지원 프로그램을 지속 가동해 나갈 계획이라고 밝혔다.

Mayor Lee added, "We will actively support drug development and commercialization connecting Jeongeup to global markets through corporate-research institution collaboration."

Jeongeup City announced that EzQureis signed a business agreement with the Jeonbuk Advanced Bio Research Division under the National Institute of Toxicity Research on September 10.

EzQureis, a biotech firm specializing in protein-protein interaction-based therapeutics, previously announced a joint research deal with AstraZeneca in June.

The agreement aims to build a drug development base within the Jeonbuk Research and Development Special Zone by integrating local preclinical infrastructure.

Jeongeup City stated it will support the establishment of corporate bases while fostering the transition from agricultural to advanced biotech industries.
