The Disability Discrimination Remedy Committee of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea stated, "Facilities and operational systems must be improved so that persons with disabilities can participate in tourism activities equally with non-disabled individuals."
The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) announced that it issued recommendations on August 31 to the Governor of ¡Û¡Û County and the CEO of A Resort to improve accessibility for wheelchair users.
A physical disability victim using a wheelchair filed a complaint with the NHRCK, citing severe restrictions when accessing ticketing booths, restrooms, and gondolas at A Resort.
In response, ¡Û¡Û County and A Resort cited budgetary limitations, land ownership by the National Park Service, and non-applicability of specific regulations as obstacles to immediate remediation.
The NHRCK rejected these justifications, ruling that denying reasonable accommodations solely due to financial costs or private ownership constitutes illegal discrimination under the Anti-Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Act.
The commission advised A Resort to construct wheelchair decks and improve accessibility, while urging ¡Û¡Û County to review statutory compliance and conduct administrative training.
