[CTN문학관]김영희 객원기자 =한 끼의 식사가 단순한 음식 이상의 의미로 남는 순간이 있다. 누군가의 따뜻한 위로가 되기도 하고, 가족에 대한 그리움이나 한 사람과의 소중한 기억을 떠올리게 하는 매개가 되기도 한다.

한국디지털문인협회가 이처럼 음식에 얽힌 개인의 기억과 삶의 이야기를 문학으로 풀어내는 자리를 마련했다.

한국디지털문인협회는 '내 인생 최고의 한 끼'를 주제로 한 제5회 한국디지털문학상 에세이 공모전을 개최하고, 오는 10월 15일까지 작품을 접수한다고 밝혔다.

이번 공모전은 특별하거나 거창한 사건보다 일상에서 마주한 '한 끼'에 담긴 삶의 의미를 찾아내는 데 초점을 맞췄다.

힘겨운 시절 마음을 달래준 밥상, 어머니와 가족의 손맛이 깃든 음식, 여행지에서 우연히 만난 한 끼, 사랑하는 사람과 함께했던 식사 등 음식과 함께 기억에 남아 있는 순간이라면 누구나 문학적 이야기로 풀어낼 수 있다.

특히 이번 공모는 등단 여부와 나이, 직업, 국적에 제한을 두지 않는다. 전문 작가뿐 아니라 평소 글쓰기를 좋아하는 일반인도 자신의 경험과 기억을 에세이로 담아 응모할 수 있다.

응모작은 미발표 순수 창작물이어야 하며, 1인당 1편만 제출할 수 있다. 작품 분량은 11포인트 기준 A4 2매 이내이며, 한글 또는 워드 문서로 작성해 이메일로 제출하면 된다.

응모자는 작품과 함께 본명, 나이, 국적, 주소, 전화번호, 이메일 등을 기재해야 한다.

시상 규모도 눈길을 끈다. 대상 1명에게 200만 원, 최우수상 1명에게 100만 원이 수여되며, 입선 및 외국인 특별상 10명에게 각각 10만 원의 상금이 주어진다.

입상자에게는 한국디지털문인협회 정회원 자격이 부여되며, 우수 작품은 협회 공동문집에도 수록될 예정이다.

다만 표절 작품이나 이미 다른 공모전에서 수상한 작품은 심사 대상에서 제외된다. 수상 이후라도 관련 사실이 확인될 경우 수상이 취소될 수 있다.

수상작은 11월 15일 협회 홈페이지를 통해 발표하며, 입상자에게는 개별 통보한다. 시상식은 오는 12월 중 개최될 예정이다.

최원현 문학상운영위원장은 이번 공모와 관련해 음식 자체보다 그 음식에 얽힌 사람과 장소, 시간이 만들어내는 이야기에 주목했다.

최 위원장은 "같은 음식이라도 누구와 어디에서 먹었느냐에 따라 전혀 다른 이야기가 된다"며 "평범했던 한 끼도 시간이 흐르면 한 사람의 인생을 설명하는 장면으로 남을 수 있다"고 말했다.

이번 공모전에서 특히 주목되는 부분은 외국인 특별상이다. 국적의 경계를 넘어 각자의 음식 문화와 삶의 경험을 문학으로 공유할 수 있도록 별도의 시상 부문을 마련했다는 점에서 의미가 있다.

한국디지털문인협회는 지난 2022년 5월 창립됐다.

디지털 시대의 흐름에 맞춰 문학과 첨단 IT 기술의 융합을 모색하고 새로운 문학 생태계를 구축하기 위해 설립된 문인단체로, 기존 문단의 경계를 넓혀 누구나 일상 속에서 글을 쓰고 문학을 향유할 수 있는 환경 조성을 목표로 하고 있다.

또한 활자 중심의 전통적인 문학과 디지털 미디어 사이의 가교 역할을 지향하며, 변화하는 시대에 맞는 새로운 문학의 가능성을 모색하고 있다.

이번 제5회 한국디지털문학상은 거창한 문학적 소재가 아니라 누구나 한 번쯤 경험했을 법한 ‘한 끼’를 통해 삶의 기억과 사람, 관계를 돌아보게 한다는 점에서 관심을 모은다.

어쩌면 오래 기억되는 한 끼는 가장 맛있었던 음식이 아니라, 그때의 사람과 시간까지 함께 기억되는 한 끼일지도 모른다.

A meal can sometimes become much more than food. It can remain in our memories as a source of comfort during difficult times, a reminder of family, or a precious memory shared with someone special.
The Korea Digital Writers Association is inviting people to turn such memories into literature through its 5th Korea Digital Literary Award Essay Contest, themed “The Best Meal of My Life.”
The association announced that it will accept entries from September 1 through October 15, 2026.
Rather than focusing on extraordinary events, this year’s contest seeks stories that discover the meaning of life within an ordinary meal.
A meal that brought comfort on a difficult day, the taste of a family member’s home cooking, an unexpected meal encountered while traveling, or dinner shared with someone unforgettable can all become the subject of an essay.
One of the key features of the contest is its openness. There are no restrictions based on literary debut status, age, occupation or nationality. Both professional writers and ordinary people who enjoy writing are encouraged to participate.
Entries must be unpublished original works, with one submission allowed per person. Essays must be no longer than two A4 pages in 11-point font and should be submitted as a Hangul or Word document via email.
Applicants are required to include their real name, age, nationality, address, telephone number and email address when submitting their work.
The awards include KRW 2 million for the Grand Prize winner and KRW 1 million for the Excellence Prize winner. Ten recipients of the Honorable Mention and Foreign Special Award will each receive KRW 100,000.
Award winners will also be granted full membership in the Korea Digital Writers Association, while outstanding works are expected to be published in the association’s joint literary collection.
Plagiarized works and works that have already won prizes in other competitions will be excluded from judging. If such facts are discovered after an award has been granted, the award may be revoked.
The winning entries will be announced on the association’s website on November 15, with individual notification also provided to the winners. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in December.
Choi Won-hyun, chairman of the Literary Award Steering Committee, emphasized that the meaning of a meal often comes from the people, places and memories surrounding it.
“Even the same food can tell a completely different story depending on who you eat it with and where you eat it,” Choi said. “An ordinary meal can eventually remain as a scene that explains a person’s life.”
Particular attention is being given to the Foreign Special Award, which was established to encourage people from different national backgrounds to share their food-related experiences and personal stories through literature.
The Korea Digital Writers Association was founded in May 2022 with the goal of exploring the convergence of literature and advanced IT technology and building a new literary ecosystem suited to the digital era.
The association seeks to broaden the boundaries of the traditional literary world and create an environment in which anyone can easily write about and enjoy literature in everyday life. It also aims to serve as a bridge between traditional print media and digital media.
The 5th Korea Digital Literary Award is expected to attract attention because it takes an everyday subject—a single meal—and turns it into an opportunity to reflect on memories, relationships, people and the passage of time.
Perhaps the meal we remember most is not necessarily the most delicious one, but the one in which the food, the people and the moment remain together in our memories.
