[경주/CTN]이수현 기자= 주낙영 경주시장은 "이번 수상은 시민과 함께 만들어 온 변화와 성과를 인정받은 결과"라며 "민선 9기에도 지속성장과 민생안정, 균형발전을 중심으로 시민과의 약속을 충실히 실천해 경주의 새로운 도약을 이어가겠다"라고 말했다. 경주는 지난 8월 27일 개최된 '2026 제2회 한국지방자치학회 대한민국 지방자치대상'에서 행정·의정 리더-기초자치단체 부문 대상을 수상했다고 밝혔다.
대한민국 지방자치대상은 한국지방자치학회가 지역의 변화를 이끌고 지방자치 발전에 기여한 개인과 기관을 발굴하기 위해 지난해부터 시행하고 있는 시상 제도로, 행정혁신과 지역발전 성과, 지역사회와의 상생 등을 종합적으로 평가해 수상 기관을 선정한다.
경주는 기초자치단체 최초로 2025 APEC 정상회의를 유치해 개최하고, 그 성과를 문화·경제·평화 분야의 포스트 APEC 사업으로 확장하며 글로벌 도시 도약 기반을 마련한 점에서 높게 평가받았다. 또한 공공재정 2조 원 시대를 열고 6조 8,000억 원 규모의 민간투자를 유치한 성과를 비롯해 원자력·미래자동차 산업 육성, 교통망 확충, 농어촌 혁신, 저출생·인구감소 대응 등 지속가능한 성장 기반을 확충해 온 점이 함께 반영됐다.
이와 함께 시민원탁회의와 주민참여예산제 등 시민 참여형 행정을 시정 전반에 정착시켜 행정 신뢰도를 높인 점도 평가 요소로 작용했다. 경주는 공약이행평가에서 경북 유일 6년 연속 SA(최우수) 등급을 획득했으며, 기초자치단체 브랜드평판 전국 1위와 2025년 한 해 80건의 대외수상 성과를 거둔 바 있다.
이날 시상식에는 최혁준 경주시 부시장이 참석해 상을 수령했으며, 경주시는 해당 시상식 영상은 TV 방송과 한국지방자치학회 공식 유튜브 채널을 통해 공개될 예정이라고 밝혔다.
