Yang Geum-hee, Economic Vice Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do, stated, "This cooperation with the Utah state government and the University of Utah is a crucial starting point connecting Gyeongbuk's industries and enterprises with the U.S. innovation ecosystem," adding, "We will expand cooperation in future industries including AI and semiconductors, building a practical support system for Gyeongbuk companies to advance into global markets."
Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on October 6 that it signed business agreements with the Utah state government and the University of Utah at the Utah State Capitol on September 21 (local time) to expand future industry cooperation and support local companies' global market entry. The signing ceremony was attended by Gyeongbuk Economic Vice Governor Yang Geum-hee, Provincial Council Vice Chairman Park Soon-beom, Utah Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson, and University of Utah President Taylor Randall.
Under this agreement, Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to combine its strong manufacturing and industrial base with Utah's advanced tech ecosystem to expand technology and investment cooperation across future core industries such as AI and semiconductors. In particular, the province will establish the 'Gyeongbuk-Utah Global Open Innovation Hub' leveraging the University of Utah's startup support infrastructure and research network to back local innovative companies in local technology commercialization and investment attraction.
Following the ceremony, the Gyeongbuk delegation visited the University of Utah Nano Fab, a research support facility for semiconductor and nanotechnology, touring cleanrooms and process equipment while inspecting industry-academia-research linked technology development sites. Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to form a Working Group to promptly execute agreement tasks while continuously strengthening a global cooperative network where state governments, universities, and businesses thrive together.
