Nak-young Joo, Mayor of Gyeongju City, stated, "We will improve the Youth Center into a safer and more comfortable space through this construction project."
Mayor Joo added, "We will carry out the project without setbacks so that youths can engage in activities within a better environment."
Gyeongju City announced that it will invest 3.141 billion KRW to launch a comprehensive environment improvement project for the Gyeongju Youth Center.
First opened in 1995, the facility suffered from chronic water leaks and outdated structures despite two previous renovations.
Construction will begin in November to remove 1,533.2㎡ of asbestos, upgrade drainage pumps, and replace HVAC systems, with completion scheduled for June 2027.
During the temporary closure, administrative offices and youth programs will be relocated to Hwarang Village.
