Director General Lee added, "We hope students discover their potential through interactions with field experts and build their futures as STEM professionals." The Ministry of Education and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity announced they will operate the '2026 STEM Step-in Project' career experience program in Seoul and Daejeon from September 3 to 4.
The event forms part of a multi-stage career exploration program, with 400 participants across 73 middle school teams taking part. Participants choose three out of 13 customized courses visiting universities, enterprises, and research institutes across the Seoul Metropolitan and Chungcheong regions.
The curriculum covers bio-pharma (Yonsei K-NIBRT, Sinshin Pharm), semiconductors (Myongji Univ. Semiconductor Center), and aerospace (KAIST Space Institute, KARI). Students engage in site visits and mentoring sessions with active researchers to explore career matches.
Additionally, participating teams join career design workshops to outline their upcoming team research projects. The Ministry of Education and KOFAC stated that following this initial field experience, they plan to sequentially roll out online mentoring, team projects, and result-sharing exhibitions through the end of the year.
