[인천/CTN]주대호 기자= 김명희 인천시 보건환경연구원장이 교육부 인증의 가치를 강조하며 "이번 교육기부 진로체험 기관 인증은 연구원이 오랜 기간 지역사회 청소년들과 함께 쌓아온 환경교육의 공공적 가치를 공식 인정받은 뜻깊은 결실"이라며 "앞으로도 미래 세대가 꼭 알아야 할 환경 이슈를 쉽고 흥미롭게 체험할 수 있도록 교육 콘텐츠를 강화하고, 미래의 환경전문 인재를 양성하는 데 최선을 다하겠다"라고 밝혔다. 인천광역시 보건환경연구원은 교육부가 주관하는 '2026년 교육기부 진로체험 인증기관'으로 선정됐다.

인천시 보건환경연구원에 따르면 교육기부 진로체험 인증제는 청소년들에게 양질의 진로체험 기회를 무료로 제공하는 기관을 발굴해 인증하는 제도다.

연구원은 2010년부터 현재까지 7,500명 이상의 학생이 참여한 '환경아카데미'를 교육부 진로체험 플랫폼 '꿈길'을 통해 운영해 왔다. 이번 인증을 계기로 기후위기, 미세플라스틱 등 환경 이슈를 청소년 눈높이에 맞춘 체험형 교육으로 강화할 방침이다.

이처럼 공공 연구기관이 보유한 시험·연구 인프라를 활용해 지역 청소년들에게 무료 진로체험을 제공하고 교육부 인증을 통해 프로그램의 안전성과 우수성을 검증받는 것은 미래 세대의 환경 의식을 높이기 위해 필요한 연구 행정이다.

다만 2010년부터 16년간 운영해 온 기존 프로그램을 두고 이제야 정부 인증을 받은 것을 마치 지역 청소년 환경교육의 획기적 이정표를 세운 것처럼 부풀리는 것은 전형적인 생색내기식 성과 포장이라는 지적을 피하기 어렵다. 단순한 체험 인원 수치 나열이나 수사적 인증 획득 홍보에 머물 것이 아니라, 일회성 현장 견학을 넘어선 깊이 있는 진로 연계 프로그램 개발과 실질적인 환경 전문 인재 배출 등 현장에서 당장 체감할 수 있는 실리적 교육 성과가 우선되어야 할 것으로 보인다.

While utilizing public research infrastructure to provide free career experiences and earning official certification offers a plausible narrative for public environmental education, skepticism remains.

Critics point out that highlighting a government certification for a 16-year-old routine program as if it represents a major breakthrough borders on administrative showmanship and excessive self-praise. Rather than relying on total participant counts or rhetorical accreditation claims, the research institute needs practical results, such as developing in-depth career mentorships and producing tangible outcomes in nurturing future environmental scientists.
