[순천/CTN]하성매 기자= 손훈모 순천시장은 "가로수는 도시경관을 아름답게 만드는 조경 요소를 넘어 시민에게 그늘과 휴식을 제공하고 탄소를 흡수하는 중요한 도시 기반시설이다"라며 "나무의 건강한 생육과 시민의 안전한 보행권이 조화를 이룰 수 있도록 현장 중심의 체계적인 가로수 정책을 추진하겠다"라고 말했다.
순천시는 9월 8일 시민 안전과 나무의 생육, 도시경관을 종합적으로 고려한 '사람과 나무가 공존하는 가로수 정책사업'을 본격 추진한다고 밝혔다.
이번 사업은 가로수의 생육환경과 시민의 보행권을 함께 확보하기 위한 체계적인 관리 정책 체계를 구축하기 위해 마련됐다.
시는 2026년부터 2030년까지 관내 가로수를 도심권과 서부권, 동부권, 시외권 북부·서부 등 5개 권역으로 나누어 단계적 정비를 진행한다.
오는 2027년 수종 갱신 연차별 계획을 수립하고, 오천그린광장 일원 신규 식재 및 에코촌 주변 생활환경숲 조성을 순차적으로 추진한다.
아울러 보도블록을 들어 올리는 뿌리 정비와 간판 가림 가지치기 등 보행 불편 요소를 사전 차단하고 현장점검 결과를 데이터로 축적해 선제 대응할 계획이다.
순천시는 지속적인 생육 관리와 정밀 조사를 거쳐 노후 위험목을 적합 수종으로 교체하는 등 친환경 녹지축 관리를 강화하겠다고 밝혔다.
