A National Police Agency official stated, "We will strictly enforce the conflict-of-interest guidelines to ensure fairness in the investigative process."
The official added, "We will proceed without hitch on follow-up tasks to strengthen control mechanisms and public trust in police investigations."
The National Police Agency announced it implemented guidelines requiring cases involving officers' family members as case parties to be transferred to other police stations.
Following recommendations from the Police Reform Committee, the agency expanded the rule's scope from spouses and direct relatives to include siblings.
Under the new policy, investigators must request a recusal if a case involves relatives of officers currently assigned to or employed within the last 3 years at the respective station.
Once approved by the Provincial Police Agency, the case will be transferred to a different station within the same judicial court jurisdiction.
Exceptional cases requiring continuous investigation for victim protection or emergency arrests must obtain approval from the chief of the Provincial Police Agency and undergo monthly checks.
