Seung-kwan Lim, Commissioner of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, highlighted the inter-agency initiative, stating, "This agreement is meaningful in laying the groundwork to link deep-dive injury data with emergency care information." Commissioner Lim added, "We will strengthen evidence-based injury prevention policies." The KDCA and the National Medical Center announced they signed a Memorandum of Understanding on August 27 to expand the integration of injury and emergency medical data.
The agreement aims to complement the KDCA's in-depth injury surveillance data with the NMC's National Emergency Department Information System (NEDIS) data. By combining these systems, both institutions plan to establish an analytical foundation covering patient characteristics, emergency treatments, and overall clinical pathways.
Under the framework, the agencies will share data to build an integrated database, collaborate on statistics management, and conduct joint research to develop national emergency medical statistics. Kil-jun Seo, President of the National Medical Center, noted that the collaboration will enhance evidence-based protocols in emergency field operations.
Government bodies and public medical institutions signing agreements to share data represents a standard administrative procedure to formalize cooperation, with the actual integration of datasets serving as the ultimate test of efficacy.
