[CTN/사회]가금현 기자= 무너질 듯 낡은 집에서 불안한 하루를 보내던 한 모녀에게 새로운 보금자리가 생겼다.

22년 동안 서산지역 이웃들의 주거환경 개선을 위해 이어져 온 '사랑의 집 짓기' 사업이 스무 번째 결실을 맺으며 또 하나의 따뜻한 이야기를 만들어냈다.

(사)서산시자원봉사센터가 주최하고 서산 사랑의 집 나눔회가 주관한 '사랑의 집 나눔회 제20호 집 입택식'이 지난 8월 29일 서산시 운산면 소중리 신축주택 현장에서 열렸다.

이날 행사에는 이완섭 서산시장과 장갑순 서산시의회 의장, 한도현 (사)서산시자원봉사센터 이사장, HD현대오일뱅크 대외협력팀 정평배 팀장을 비롯해 사랑의 집 나눔회 관계자와 지역 자원봉사단체장 및 회원 등 100여 명이 참석해 완공을 축하했다.

이번에 완공된 제20호 사랑의 집은 기존 주택의 노후화가 심해 붕괴 위험까지 우려되는 열악한 환경에서 생활하던 취약계층 모녀 가정을 위해 마련됐다.

새 보금자리가 만들어지기까지는 한 기관의 지원만 있었던 것이 아니다.

서산시와 HD현대1%나눔재단이 사업비를 지원하고, 운산면 행정복지센터가 대상 가정을 추천했다.

이후 (사)서산시자원봉사센터와 서산 사랑의 집 나눔회가 타당성을 검토해 대상자로 선정하면서 사업이 본격적으로 추진됐다.

지난 4월 설계에 들어간 사업은 5월 14일 기존 주택 철거, 5월 23일 착공을 거쳐 약 100일간의 공사 기간 동안 수많은 사람의 손길을 거쳐 마침내 새로운 집으로 완성됐다.

특히 사랑의 집 나눔회 회원들과 지역 자원봉사단체 회원들은 물론 미래건설산업, 다해인쇄 등 지역 기업들도 힘을 보태며 ‘한 사람의 삶을 바꾸는 집’에 지역사회의 마음을 더했다.

사랑의 집 짓기 사업의 출발은 지난 2004년으로 거슬러 올라간다.

동문동의 한 독거 어르신을 위한 제1호 집을 시작으로 시작된 사업은 올해 제20호 집 완공까지 22년이라는 세월 동안 한 번도 지역의 어려운 이웃을 향한 시선을 거두지 않았다.

초기에는 사랑의 집 나눔회 회원들의 회비와 재능기부를 중심으로 사업이 진행됐다.

하지만 시간이 흐르면서 건축 자재비 상승 등 현실적인 어려움이 커졌고, 지속적인 사업 추진에도 부담이 따랐다.

이러한 상황에서 HD현대1%나눔재단이 2021년부터 매년 5천만 원의 사업비를 정기적으로 지원하면서 사랑의 집 짓기 사업은 보다 안정적인 기반을 마련하게 됐다.

그 결과 제20호 사랑의 집까지 이어지며 서산지역의 대표적인 민관 협력 나눔사업으로 자리매김했다.

이완섭 서산시장은 이날 격려사를 통해 자원봉사자들과 후원기관에 감사의 뜻을 전했다.

이 시장은 "무더운 여름철에도 이웃을 위해 땀 흘리며 안전하고 쾌적한 새 보금자리를 완성해 주신 자원봉사자분들과 후원 기관에 깊이 감사드린다"며 "20년 넘게 이어온 사랑의 집 나눔 사업은 서산시 나눔 문화의 상징이자 자랑"이라고 말했다.

권국중 서산 사랑의 집 나눔회 회장도 회원과 자원봉사자, 서산시, 후원기업에 감사의 마음을 전했다.

권 회장은 "20번째 사랑의 집이 완공되기까지 함께해 주신 회원들과 자원봉사자, 서산시와 후원기업에 진심으로 감사드린다"며 "앞으로도 지역사회의 따뜻한 마음을 모아 주거환경이 열악한 이웃들에게 희망을 전하는 활동을 지속해 나가겠다"고 밝혔다.

이번 제20호 사랑의 집이 갖는 의미는 단순히 낡은 주택 한 채를 새롭게 지었다는 데 있지 않다.

누군가에게 집은 잠을 자는 공간이지만, 또 다른 누군가에게 집은 안전과 존엄, 그리고 내일을 꿈꿀 수 있는 최소한의 삶의 기반이다.

특히 붕괴 위험이 있는 노후주택에서 생활하던 모녀에게 이번 새 보금자리는 단순한 건축물이 아니라 불안했던 일상을 내려놓고 새로운 삶을 시작할 수 있는 '희망의 공간'이라는 점에서 의미가 크다.

무엇보다 이번 사업은 행정기관의 지원과 기업의 후원, 봉사단체의 재능기부와 회원들의 땀, 지역사회의 관심이 하나로 모였다는 점에서 민관 협력의 좋은 사례로 평가된다.

20번째 집을 완성한 사랑의 집 나눔회와 (사)서산시자원봉사센터는 앞으로도 관내 취약계층의 주거 안정과 복지 향상을 위해 다양한 민관 협력 봉사활동을 이어갈 계획이다.

한 채의 집을 짓는 데서 시작된 작은 나눔이 22년의 세월을 지나 스무 번째 희망으로 이어졌다.

서산의 '사랑의 집'은 이제 집을 짓는 사업을 넘어, 사람이 사람을 살피고 지역이 이웃을 품는 서산 공동체의 따뜻한 역사로 자리하고 있다.

Seosan’s 20th “House of Love” Completed, Bringing a New Home and New Hope

A new home has been given to a mother and daughter who had been living in an aging house at serious risk of collapse.
The 20th “House of Love” housewarming ceremony, organized by the Seosan Volunteer Center and hosted by the Seosan House of Love Sharing Association, was held on August 29 at the newly constructed residence in Sojung-ri, Unsan-myeon, Seosan.
More than 100 people attended the ceremony, including Seosan Mayor Lee Wan-seop, Seosan City Council Chairman Jang Gap-soon, Han Do-hyun, chairman of the Seosan Volunteer Center, and Jeong Pyeong-bae, team leader of HD Hyundai Oilbank’s External Relations Team, along with leaders and members of local volunteer organizations.
The newly completed home was built for a vulnerable mother-and-daughter household whose previous residence had deteriorated severely, creating concerns about structural safety and providing extremely poor living conditions.
The project was made possible through cooperation among local government, businesses, volunteer organizations and members of the local community.
The City of Seosan and the HD Hyundai 1% Sharing Foundation provided financial support, while the Unsan-myeon Administrative Welfare Center recommended the household. The Seosan Volunteer Center and the Seosan House of Love Sharing Association reviewed the case and selected the family for the project.
Following the design process that began in April, the old house was demolished on May 14 and construction officially began on May 23. After approximately 100 days of work, the new home was finally completed.
Members of the House of Love Sharing Association, local volunteer groups and regional companies, including Mirae Construction Industry and Dahae Printing, also contributed their time, skills and resources.
A 22-Year Tradition of Sharing
The House of Love project began in 2004 with its first home for an elderly person living alone in Dongmun-dong.
Since then, the initiative has continued for 22 years, reaching its 20th completed home this year.
In its early years, the project was funded primarily through membership dues and volunteer expertise. However, rising construction material costs created growing financial challenges.
A major turning point came in 2021, when the HD Hyundai 1% Sharing Foundation began providing 50 million won annually, allowing the project to establish a more stable financial foundation and continue supporting vulnerable households.
“A Symbol of Seosan’s Sharing Culture”
Seosan Mayor Lee Wan-seop expressed his appreciation to the volunteers and supporting organizations.
He said that he was deeply grateful to everyone who worked through the hot summer weather to create a safe and comfortable new home, adding that the House of Love project, which has continued for more than 20 years, has become “a symbol and source of pride of Seosan’s culture of sharing.”
Kwon Guk-jung, chairman of the Seosan House of Love Sharing Association, also expressed his gratitude to the members, volunteers, Seosan City and sponsoring companies.
He pledged that the organization would continue bringing hope to neighbors living in poor housing conditions by bringing together the warmth and generosity of the local community.
More Than a House: Building Safety, Dignity and Hope
The significance of the 20th House of Love goes far beyond replacing an old building with a new one.
For some people, a house is simply a place to live. For others, it is the foundation of safety, dignity and the ability to dream about tomorrow.
For this mother and daughter, the newly completed home offers more than shelter. It provides a safer environment and an opportunity to begin a new chapter of their lives without the anxiety created by an unsafe and deteriorating residence.
The project also demonstrates the power of public-private cooperation, with government support, corporate donations, volunteer labor, technical expertise and community participation coming together for one household.
The Seosan Volunteer Center and the Seosan House of Love Sharing Association plan to continue their volunteer and welfare activities aimed at improving housing stability and the quality of life of vulnerable residents throughout Seosan.
A small act of sharing that began with the construction of a single house has now grown into its 20th home over 22 years.
