[대구/CTN]이수현 기자= 추경호 대구시장이 지역 제조업의 첨단화를 강조하며 "대구 경제의 뿌리는 제조업과 중소기업"이라며 "섬유·기계·부품 등 지역 주력산업이 AX 기술을 통해 첨단화·스마트화해야 대구가 새로운 도약을 이룰 수 있다"라고 밝혔다. 추 시장은 "기업이 무엇을 필요로 하는지 현장에서 듣고 해결책을 찾아 기업 하기 좋고 투자하기 좋은 대구를 만드는 데 시정 역량을 집중하겠다"라고 강조했다. 대구특례시는 지역 섬유 기업인 ㈜보광INT와 원창머티리얼㈜를 찾아 AI 기반 제조 혁신 현장을 점검했다.
대구시에 따르면 이번 방문은 지난 6월 산업통상자원부 공모에 선정된 'AX기반 봉제 실증 테스트베드 구축 사업'의 추진 상황을 살피고 고령화와 인력 부족에 직면한 섬유·봉제산업의 고부가가치 전환을 모색하기 위해 마련됐다.
현장에서는 한국섬유개발연구원의 사업 추진 계획 보고를 시작으로 특수복 AI 제조 기술 도입 및 친환경 소재 생산 현장 참관이 진행됐다. 대구시는 검증된 AI 기술을 지역 기업 전반으로 확산시켜 생산성과 품질 경쟁력을 높일 방침이다.
이처럼 고령화와 인력난으로 위기를 맞은 지역 섬유산업에 AI 기술을 접목하고 정부 공모 사업을 연계해 현장 실증을 추진하는 것은 전통 주력산업의 체질 개선을 위해 필요한 지자체 행보다.
다만 국비 공모 사업 선정을 계기로 지역 기업을 순회하며 '투자하기 좋은 대구'나 '지역 뿌리산업 첨단화' 같은 당위성만 되풀이하는 것은 전형적인 생색내기식 보여주기 행정이라는 지적을 피하기 어렵다. 단순한 현장 방문이나 연구기관을 향한 수사적 당부에 머물 것이 아니라, 인력난에 시달리는 소규모 봉제업체들이 즉시 체감할 수 있는 실질적인 자금 지원과 구체적인 AI 기술 이전 등 실리적 행정 성과가 우선되어야 할 것으로 보인다.

Critics point out that visiting local factories following a government grant while repeating vague promises of an 'investor-friendly Daegu' borders on administrative showmanship and excessive self-praise. Rather than relying on photo-op inspections or rhetorical pleas to research institutes, the municipal government needs practical results, such as providing direct financial support for labor-starved small factories and establishing concrete technology transfer pipelines.
