특별시 및 지방정부에 따르면 이번 간담회는 여수혁신지원센터에서 열렸으며 민간 전문가와 여수시, 한국산업단지공단 관계자 등이 참석했다.

참석자들은 여수산단 기업의 고부가·친환경 화학소재 전환과 저탄소 기술혁신 연구개발(R&D) 기획을 주요 의제로 다루었다. 특별시는 이번 회의에서 나온 제안들을 오는 8월 20일 특별시장 주재 기업 간담회 안건으로 상정하고, 향후 현장 전문가들과 정기 소통체계를 구축하겠다고 덧붙였다.

이처럼 글로벌 공급망 변화와 탄소중립 요구로 어려움을 겪는 여수 석유화학 기업들을 위해 현장 전문가들의 의견을 모으고 기관 간 연계 지원책을 모색하는 것은 지역 핵심 산업의 체질 개선을 위해 필요한 절차로 볼 수 있다.

다만 기업들이 자체 노력으로 얻어낸 정부의 사업 재편 승인 성과에 슬그머니 명의를 얹어 간담회를 열고, 또 다시 며칠 뒤 시장 주재 회의를 열겠다며 회의를 위한 회의를 반복하는 것은 전형적인 숟가락 얹기 행정이라는 지적을 피하기 어렵다. 정기 소통이나 정책 공동 기획 같은 원론적인 수사 뒤에 숨을 것이 아니라, 친환경 공정 전환을 진행하는 산단 기업에 실질적인 세제 감면을 제공하고 R&D 보조금을 즉시 집행하는 등 현장에서 당장 체감할 수 있는 재정 지원책이 우선되어야 할 것으로 보인다.
