오성환 후보는 지난 21일 당진농업기술센터 중강의실에서 열린 후보자 초청 농업정책 토론회에서 민선 8기 동안의 농정 성과와 향후 구상을 설명하며 “당진 농업의 새로운 도약을 반드시 이뤄내겠다”고 강조했다.
오 후보는 “농업이 무너지면 지역의 미래도 무너진다”면서 “청년이 돌아오고 농민이 웃을 수 있는 당진 농업을 반드시 만들겠다”고 약속했다.

오 후보는 당진쌀 판로 확대 성과를 언급하며 “농민들이 땀 흘려 생산한 쌀이 제값을 받을 수 있도록 GS리테일과 협력해 도시락과 즉석밥 공급망을 구축했고 미국 수출까지 추진하고 있다”고 밝혔다. 이어 “저온저장고 확충과 로컬푸드 활성화, 청년농 보금자리주택 공급 등을 통해 농업인이 체감할 수 있는 실질적인 소득 향상 정책을 계속 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

특히 청년농 육성 정책에 대해서는 강한 의지를 드러냈다. 오 후보는 “취임 초기 240명 수준이던 청년농업인이 현재 약 600명 규모까지 늘어났다”며 “청년이 떠나는 농촌이 아니라 청년이 돌아오는 농촌을 만들기 위해 스마트팜과 스마트양식장 확대, 당진 특화 품종 육성에 더욱 힘을 쏟겠다”고 밝혔다.
또 “당찬진미와 같은 당진만의 경쟁력 있는 품종을 키우고 농업단체 공간 확보도 차질 없이 추진해 농업인들이 안정적으로 활동할 수 있는 기반을 만들겠다”고 강조했다.

축산업과 관련해서는 현장의 현실을 반영한 행정의 필요성을 언급했다. 오 후보는 “현재 가축사육 제한 규정으로 축산농가의 어려움이 커지고 있다”며 “신기술을 활용해 악취 문제를 개선한 성공 사례도 있는 만큼, 무조건적인 규제가 아니라 환경 개선과 행정 지원이 함께 이뤄져야 한다”고 말했다.
이어 청년농 조직화와 공동 유통 체계 구축 필요성도 강조했다. 오 후보는 “청년농업인들이 홀로 버티는 구조로는 한계가 있다”며 “조직화와 공동 유통 체계를 구축해 시장 경쟁력을 높이고 지속 가능한 농업 생태계를 만들어 가겠다”고 밝혔다.
끝으로 오 후보는 “농업은 단순한 산업이 아니라 당진의 뿌리이자 시민의 삶을 지키는 기반”이라며 “농민의 땀과 희생이 존중받고 다음 세대가 희망을 품을 수 있는 농업 도시 당진을 반드시 만들어 가겠다”고 포부를 전했다.
