[CTN/사회]가금현 기자 = 서산시자원봉사센터(이사장 한도현)가 폭염에 지친 지역 주민들의 건강한 여름나기를 돕고 자원봉사 문화를 확산하기 위해 청소년들과 함께하는 뜻깊은 캠페인을 개최했다.

서산시자원봉사센터는 지난 8월 12일 '청소년 봉사학교' 프로그램의 일환으로 온열질환 예방 및 자원봉사 활성화를 위한 거리 캠페인을 펼쳤다.

이번 활동에는 1365 자원봉사포털을 통해 자발적으로 신청한 청소년 10명과 자원봉사 거점캠프 활동가들이 함께 힘을 모았다.

이번 캠페인은 연일 계속되는 무더위 속에서 온열질환에 취약한 이웃들의 안부를 살피고, 청소년들이 주도적으로 이웃사랑을 실천하는 계기를 제공하고자 기획됐다.

참가 학생들은 본격적인 현장 활동에 앞서 온열질환의 주요 증상과 폭염 대비 행동요령 등 필수 안전 교육을 사전 이수하며 의식을 고취했다.

이어 서산시 청소년 전용공간인 '영차영차'로 이동해 시민들에게 전달할 폭염 예방 메시지를 담은 피켓을 직접 제작했다.

이후 유동 인구가 많은 서산 동부시장과 버스터미널 일대로 나선 청소년들은 직접 만든 피켓을 들고 온열질환 예방 수칙을 적극 홍보했다.

특히 땡볕 아래서 장사를 이어가는 시장 노점상 어르신들과 야외 근로자, 이동 중인 시민들에게 시원한 얼음물을 전달하고 폭염 대비 안전 수칙을 친절히 안내해 현장 시민들로부터 큰 격려와 호응을 얻었다.

캠페인 현장에서는 폭염 속 안전사고에 대비해 거점캠프 활동가들의 세심한 안전 지도와 보행 안내가 어우러지며 차질 없이 안전하게 활동이 완료됐다.

캠페인에 참여한 한 청소년은 "직접 만든 피켓으로 폭염 예방 수칙을 알리고, 시장 어르신들께 시원한 얼음물을 전해드릴 수 있어 정말 보람찼다”며 “앞으로도 다양한 봉사활동에 꾸준히 참여하고 싶다"고 소감을 밝혔다.

서산시자원봉사센터 이경구 센터장은 “무더위 속에서도 솔선수범해 준 청소년들과 현장에서 안전을 책임져 준 활동가 선생님들께 감사드린다”며 “앞으로도 청소년들이 주도적으로 참여할 수 있는 알찬 자원봉사 프로그램을 지속적으로 마련하겠다”고 밝혔다.

On August 12, as part of its 'Youth Volunteer School' program, the center conducted a campaign to prevent heat-related illnesses and revitalize volunteer activities. The initiative brought together 10 youth volunteers recruited through the 1365 Volunteer Portal alongside activists from volunteer base camps.
Organized during an ongoing severe heat wave, the event aimed to protect vulnerable community members and provide youth with a hands-on opportunity to practice neighborly love.
Prior to field activities, participating students completed safety training covering major symptoms of heat illness and essential preventative guidelines. They then visited 'Yeongcha-Yeongcha', a space dedicated to youth in Seosan, where they handcrafted promotional placards featuring heat wave prevention tips.
Equipped with their handmade signs, the students moved to high-traffic areas, including Seosan Eastern Market and the local bus terminal, to raise public awareness. The volunteers received warm praise from the community as they distributed cold iced water and shared heat safety rules with elderly street vendors, outdoor workers, and passersby working under the scorching sun.
Throughout the event, base camp activists provided attentive safety supervision and pedestrian guidance, ensuring all activities were completed safely despite the extreme heat.
A youth participant shared, "It was truly rewarding to promote heat prevention rules with signs we made ourselves and to hand cold water to elderly market vendors. I want to continue participating in various volunteer activities in the future."
Kyung-koo Lee, Director of the Seosan Volunteer Center, stated, "I am deeply grateful to the youth who took the lead despite the sweltering heat and to our activists who ensured everyone's safety on site. We will continue to develop enriching volunteer programs that encourage active youth participation."
