A Festival of Life Sculpted from Pieces of Memory¡¦ Artist Lim Chang-soon Holds a Booth Solo Exhibition at the 5th National Artists Association Special Exhibition
[CTN / Culture & Arts] Reporter Ga Geum-hyun = Lim Chang-soon, an established artist who captures life's memories and emotions through semi-abstract paintings, is welcoming visitors with a special solo exhibition.
Artist Lim Chang-soon is holding a booth solo exhibition at the "5th National Artists Association Special Exhibition," held on the 4th floor of the Insa Art Plaza Gallery in Seoul from Wednesday, May 27 to Tuesday, June 2. The exhibition features her pure creative series "Garden of Memory," along with new figurative and abstract works, including a grand 100-ho (large-scale canvas) masterpiece.
The core themes of this exhibition are the "landscapes within the memories of life" and the "journey to find the garden of the mind." Freely crossing the boundaries between figurative and semi-figurative art, the artist expresses the light of nature, the emotions of the seasons, and the hope of life through a vibrant palette. The lines and dots repeatedly layered on the canvas represent the traces of time and the texture of emotions accumulated through life's journey. The intense yet soft colors transcend reality to depict an ideal world in the mind, while the flowers, seas, fields, and light in the works serve as symbols of healing and tranquility.
Lim¡¯s oil paintings go beyond a simple reproduction of realistic landscapes; they lyrically unravel the lingering emotions and traces of time, offering deep resonance and comfort to viewers. The bright colors symbolize the joy of life and festive emotions, and the flowers she creates are represented not as concrete botanical forms, but as symbolic entities reconstructed within memory. The elegant brushstrokes flowing through the flower fields infuse rhythm and vitality into the otherwise static landscape.
In these new works, simple and cute human figures make a fresh appearance to beautifully manifest precious memories. Two figures facing each other with smiles seem to symbolize the value of human relationships, such as friendship, love, and family affection. Their round and soft shapes imply a pure world free of conflict and boundaries, evoking happy childhood memories or warm moments deeply cherished in the heart.
In particular, the newly unveiled 100-ho masterpiece features a unique composition where grid lines of a certain standard intersect over refreshing green hues. This symbolically demonstrates that while the grid divides different memories, these individual experiences gather to form a person's life, just as countless pieces of memory come together to create one grand festival.
Artist Lim Chang-soon, who is showcasing her "Garden of Memory" and "Festival of Memory" series, stated, "I wanted to sublimate the countless moments of memory scattered across time into an ordered piece of art. I hope to share the preciousness of the small moments that make up our lives, and the beautiful landscape of life formed by those gathered moments, with many people."
Meanwhile, Artist Lim Chang-soon is an established painter who has proven her artistic capabilities through 26 solo exhibitions and over 160 group exhibitions and art fairs both domestically and internationally. She is currently actively engaged in creative endeavors as a member of the Korean Fine Arts Association and the Contemporary Women's Art Association.
