[Culture & Arts / CTN] Reporter Geum-hyeon Ga = The small, lovely long-tailed tits in the artwork are transformed into symbolic beings representing love and happiness, wishing for peace in life. The combination of images engraved on the glossy ceramic plates is full of bright energy, as if presenting a joyful daily life as a gift.
Artist Eun-kyung Kim is currently holding her solo exhibition titled "Offering You Happiness" from June 10 (Wed) to June 16 (Tue), 2026, at Arisu Gallery in Insa-dong, Seoul. Instead of a traditional canvas, she connects traditional Korean imagery—such as lucky pouches (Bokjumeoni), moon jars, traditional hats (Gwanmo), bridal headpieces (Jokduri), and roof tiles—with the affectionate appearance of a long-tailed tit family to convey true love.
The long-tailed tit is portrayed as a bird with outstanding cooperative abilities to avoid danger despite its small size. Moving beyond mere ecological traits, the artist expands this into a metaphor: true wisdom is born only when fragile beings unite. Although the small and cute long-tailed tit symbolizes vulnerability in nature, it is interpreted in the exact opposite way in her artwork.
Furthermore, as a "flocking bird," it emphasizes communal values. They do not live alone but together, respecting each other's relationships and acknowledging each individual's role within their life structure. It embodies the purest form of family shown by nature.
The Chinese character ¡®Bok (ÜØ)¡¯ (meaning good fortune or blessing) engraved on the lucky pouch symbolizes the central message of the artwork. Here, Bok does not merely signify material abundance; it represents the happiness of life derived from the health and harmony of the family, as well as mutual consideration and love. The scene of the long-tailed tits gathered together on the lucky pouch expresses communal values and family solidarity, showcasing the warm energy generated when small beings come together.
In particular, the different traditional hats (Gwanmo) and ornaments worn by the birds go beyond simple avian forms, symbolizing the roles and relationships of family members. The artist reinterprets the Joseon Dynasty Gwanmo not as a symbol of status and power, but as a meaning of love, responsibility, and the role of protecting one another within the family. Through this, she shares the message that each family member is a shining presence in their own place.
Artist Eun-kyung Kim, who is currently hosting the exhibition 'Offering You Happiness', stated, "Just as the small and fragile-looking long-tailed tits live by relying on one another, the true blessings in our lives are completed through the love and relationships we share together."
The artist holds a Master's degree from the Department of Ceramic Painting at Sejong University's Graduate School of Convergence Arts. She is widely recognized in the art community for her creative activities that unravel the core essence of happiness and the value of family—our most precious community—with a warm perspective through the small lives found in our daily surroundings.
