Jeong-gwan Kim, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, highlighted the trade performance, stating, "Shrinking consumer goods exports to China are showing a meaningful upward trend thanks to joint public-private efforts." The minister added, "We will accelerate corporate support activities in the second half based on regional export evaluations." The ministry held an export review meeting with trade officials and KOTRA regional directors in China.

According to the ministry, consumer goods exports to China reached 3.44 billion USD in the first half of the year, up 8.7% year-on-year, driven by gains in fashion and food sectors.

To sustain this momentum, the government plans to support local live-commerce streaming on platforms like Douyin, operate offline pop-up stores, and establish new logistics desks in inland regions.

While reviewing trade metrics and expanding support systems for domestic exporters presents a plausible narrative for public trade administration, skepticism remains.

Critics point out that attributing private sector performance and base-effect rebounds to government intervention borders on administrative showmanship and excessive self-praise. Rather than relying on repetitive marketing events or temporary pop-up booths, the ministry needs practical results, such as resolving non-tariff barriers, streamlining regulatory certification processes, and protecting local intellectual property rights.
