[과기정통부/CTN]가요진 기자= 이도규 과학기술정보통신부(이하 과기정통부) 정보통신정책실장은 "이번 경진대회를 통해 배움에서 개발, 현장 실증과 새로운 가치 창출로 이어지는 모두의 AI 성장사다리 프로젝트를 실현하겠다"라며 "참가자들의 혁신적인 도전이 실제 서비스로 구현되고 창업과 사업화 등으로 확장되는 계기가 되기를 기대한다"라고 말했다. 과학기술정보통신부와 한국지능정보사회진흥원은 국민의 AI 역량 강화를 위한 '모두의 AI 서비스 경진대회'를 개최한다고 밝혔다.
과기정통부에 따르면 이번 대회는 국민이 직접 아이디어를 인공지능 서비스로 개발해 일상과 사회 문제를 해결하도록 지원하는 행사로 만 15세 이상 누구나 개인 또는 4인 이하 팀으로 참가할 수 있다.
서면평가를 거쳐 5개 권역별 10개 팀씩 총 50개 팀을 선발한 뒤 오프라인 '모두의 AI 라운지'에서 예선을 진행한다. 본선에 진출한 10개 팀에는 2개월간 전문가 멘토링과 클라우드, API 등 개발 자원이 제공되며 총상금은 2,600만 원 규모다.
이처럼 국민 대상 AI 교육 및 체험 기회를 확대하고 실습형 프로젝트를 통해 기술 저변을 넓히려는 공공 공모전 개최는 ICT 정책 담당 부처의 전형적인 사업 활동이다.
다만 상금 몇 백만 원과 2개월짜리 단기 멘토링을 지원하면서 마치 거창한 AI 창업 생태계나 국가적 성장 사다리를 완성한 것처럼 대대적으로 홍보하는 것은 겉치레 행정이라는 지적을 피하기 어렵다. 단순한 일회성 대회를 열어 참가 실적을 올리는 데 그칠 것이 아니라, 수상작이 실제 시장에서 상용화되거나 지속 가능한 창업으로 정착할 수 있도록 투자 유치 연계와 장기적 연구개발 지원 등 눈에 보이는 실질적 후속 성과로 증명해야 한다.
