[경주/CTN]이수현 기자= 주낙영 경주시장이 사업의 포부를 밝히며 "신라의 천년 과학유산과 미래 기술을 잇는 경주만의 지식문화 공간으로 조성하겠다"라며 "시민 누구나 일상에서 문화와 과학을 즐길 수 있는 대표 복합문화공간으로 만들겠다"라고 말했다. 경주는 시청 영상회의실에서 '경주시 복합문화도서관 공간조성 및 종합운영계획 연구용역' 보고회를 열고 공간 구성 방안을 논의했다.
경주시에 따르면 이번 복합문화도서관은 한수원 자사고 대안사업비 787억 원을 투입해 황성공원 일원에 지하 1층, 지상 2층 규모로 건립될 예정이다.
시에서는 지하 1층 경주기록실 및 신라 과학유산 전시공간, 지상 1층 어린이자료실 및 열린제작실, 지상 2층 종합자료실 및 한수원 미래 에너지 홍보관 등을 배치한다는 구상을 내놓았다. 시는 내년 1월 착공을 거쳐 2028년 8월 개관을 목표로 하고 있다.
이처럼 한수원 대안사업비를 활용해 지역 주민들을 위한 대형 복합문화도서관을 기획하고 체계적인 연구용역을 거쳐 공간 구성을 준비하는 것은 지자체의 정상적인 행정 절차다.
다만 착공까지 반년 이상 남았고 개관은 2028년으로 까마득한 상황에서 단순 용역 보고회 개최 건을 들고 나와 '천년 과학과 미래 기술' 같은 화려한 수사를 동원해 대대적으로 홍보하는 것은 전형적인 생색내기식 보여주기 행정이라는 지적을 피하기 어렵다. 청사진만 앞세운 요란한 홍보나 수사적 목표에 머물 것이 아니라, 거액의 예산이 투입되는 만큼 향후 시설 운영의 내실화와 실효성 있는 콘텐츠 확보 등 현장에서 체감할 수 있는 실무적 집행 성과로 증명해야 한다.
