서산구치소 교정협의회, 말복 맞아 생수 전달 '폭염 속 식지 않는 나눔'

초복·중복 이어 말복까지… 생수·보양식 지원하며 수용자 건강한 여름나기 온힘

[CTN/사회]가금현 기자 = 서산구치소 교정협의회(회장 김영식)가 말복을 맞아 기록적인 폭염 속에서 고통받는 수용자들을 위해 대규모 생수 지원에 나서며 지역사회에 따뜻한 감동을 전하고 있다.

서산구치소 교정협의회는 14일 말복을 기해 서산구치소(소장 노해수)에 수용자들의 온열질환 예방과 건강한 여름나기를 위한 얼음 생수 5,000병을 전달했다.

앞서 교정협의회는 올여름 폭염에 대비해 초복에는 얼음 생수 3,000병을 기증한 데 이어, 중복에는 수용자 보양을 위한 생닭 350마리를 전달하며 세심한 지원 활동을 이어온 바 있다.

이번 말복 생수 지원 역시 교정협의회 위원들의 자발적인 참여와 적극적인 후원이 모여 성사됐다.

구치소 측은 전달받은 생수를 시원하게 얼려 폭염이 가장 심한 시간대에 맞추어 수용자들에게 지급함으로써 온열질환 예방 효과와 체감 시원함을 극대화할 방침이다.

밀폐된 공간에서 생활하는 수용자들의 신체적 부담과 정신적 스트레스를 경감하는 데 큰 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.

김영식 서산구치소 교정협의회장은 "유난히 심한 올여름 무더위 속에서 고통받는 수용자들을 생각하면 안타까운 마음"이라며 "초복과 중복에 이어 전달된 시원한 생수 한 병과 보양식이 지친 몸과 마음을 달래고, 내일을 살아갈 작은 위로와 힘이 되기를 바라며, 앞으로도 지역사회와 함께하는 따뜻한 나눔을 꾸준히 이어가겠다"고 전했다.

노해수 서산구치소장은 "연일 이어지는 폭염 속에서도 초복부터 말복까지 잊지 않고 수용자들의 건강을 위해 따뜻한 나눔을 실천해 준 교정협의회에 깊이 감사드린다"며 "이러한 나눔의 가치가 수용자들에게 잘 전달되어, 향후 사회로 복귀했을 때 또 다른 나눔을 실천하는 계기가 되길 바라며, 구치소 역시 안전하고 건강한 교정 환경 조성을 위해 최선을 다하겠다"고 답했다.

한편, 오랜 시간 서산구치소와 함께하며 교정 행정의 든든한 동반자 역할을 해온 서산구치소 교정협의회는 혹서기 생수 및 특식 지원, 명절 위문품 전달 등 계절별 맞춤형 나눔을 통해 따뜻한 교정 문화 정착에 앞장서고 있다.

[CTN / Society / Chungnam / Seosan] Reporter Geum-hyun Ga = The Seosan Detention Center Correctional Council (Chairman Young-sik Kim) delivered a large-scale donation of drinking water to help inmates suffering from the record-breaking heatwave on the occasion of Malbok (the final peak heat day of summer), bringing heartwarming inspiration to the local community.
On August 14th, the Correctional Council delivered 5,000 bottles of iced water to the Seosan Detention Center (Director Hae-su Noh) to prevent heat-related illnesses and help inmates stay healthy through the summer.
Prior to this donation, the council provided 3,000 bottles of iced water around Chobok and delivered 350 fresh chickens for a special nourishing meal around Joungbok. This Malbok water donation was also made possible through the generous sponsorship and voluntary participation of the council members.
The detention center plans to freeze the donated water and distribute it during the hottest hours of the day to maximize heatstroke prevention and cooling relief. This initiative is expected to greatly relieve both physical stress and mental strain for inmates living in enclosed quarters.
"My heart goes out to the inmates who are suffering through this unusually severe heatwave," said Young-sik Kim, Chairman of the Correctional Council. "Following our support during Chobok and Joungbok, I hope this cold bottle of water offers comfort to their tired minds and bodies, providing a small sense of solace and strength for tomorrow. We will continue our dedicated volunteer work alongside the local community."
Hae-su Noh, Director of Seosan Detention Center, expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am deeply thankful to the Correctional Council for their unwavering support and thoughtful sharing from Chobok to Malbok despite the relentless heatwave. I hope the value of this kindness reaches the inmates so that they, too, may practice sharing when they return to society. The detention center will continue to do its best to create a safe and healthy correctional environment."
