[산림청/CTN]가요진 기자= 산림청 국립산림과학원 연구기획과 김래현 과장이 21일 "국립산림과학원이 보유한 첨단 연구장비를 무상으로 개방하는 것은 국가 연구기관으로서 국민에게 제공해야 할 중요한 공공서비스"라며 "앞으로도 최고 수준의 산림과학 연구 인프라를 더 많은 연구자들이 활용할 수 있도록 장비 공동활용을 지속적으로 확대해 나가겠다"라고 밝혔다. 국립산림과학원은 보유한 국가 고가 연구장비를 민간에 개방하는 대민 서비스를 추진한 결과 2023년부터 현재까지 누적 공동활용 실적 200건을 돌파했다고 발표했다.
국립산림과학원은 범부처 연구시설·장비 공유플랫폼(ZEUS)에 보유 장비를 등록해 무상으로 개방해 왔다. 공동활용 건수는 2023년 38건, 2024년 34건에서 2025년 75건으로 크게 늘었으며, 2026년 7월 현재 이미 53건을 기록하며 가파른 증가세를 이어가고 있다. 지역별 이용 실적을 살펴보면 서울·경기 지역이 122건으로 전체의 61%를 차지했다.
이번 실적은 자체 활용에 머물던 국가 연구 자산을 민간 산학연에 개방해 활용도를 극대화했다는 점에서 긍정적인 평가를 받는다.
다만 전체 이용 실적의 절반 이상이 서울·경기 지역에 집중되어 있어 지방 소재 연구기관이나 중소기업의 접근성이 떨어진다는 한계도 드러난다. 국가 연구장비 개방의 취지를 제대로 살리기 위해서는 단순한 무상 개방을 넘어 지역 거점 연구 인프라와의 연계망을 구축하고 비수도권 연구자들을 위한 수송·분석 지원 등 구체적인 보완책이 마련되어야 할 것으로 보인다.
