[Society/CTN] Reporter Geum-hyun Ga = The Seosan Volunteer Center (Chairman Do-hyun Han) launched a large-scale side dish sharing management initiative to help vulnerable neighbors in the region prepare for a healthy summer.
As part of the "Side Dish Sharing Project for Vulnerable Groups," the Seosan Volunteer Center made and delivered "Yeolmu (Young Summer Radish) Kimchi of Love" at the Onseok-dong kitchen over two days, May 19 and 20. Utilizing designated donations, this project was timed precisely when winter kimchi supplies run out, aiming to support the dietary needs of underprivileged households, elderly people living alone, and disabled residents in the jurisdiction.
A total of 60 volunteers, including the "Warm Food Truck Volunteer Group" and activists from regional volunteer base camps, joined hands for this meaningful cause. Gathering from the afternoon of the 19th, volunteers trimmed and washed the radishes. On the 20th, they lit up the kitchen from 6:00 AM, sweating through the entire process of salting the radishes, mixing the seasonings, and packaging.
The 3 tons of Yeolmu Kimchi, seasoned with sincerity over two days, were carefully packed into 3kg containers per household. They were swiftly delivered to 1,000 vulnerable families recommended by the 15 Eup, Myeon, and Dong administrative welfare centers and base camp activists. While distributing the kimchi, volunteers also checked on the health and well-being of their neighbors, sharing warm affection.
In particular, this activity went beyond simply sharing food; it actively utilized local agricultural products to contribute to revitalizing the local economy. Furthermore, it served as an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of the local community, which had been somewhat stagnant since COVID-19.
Kyung-gu Lee, Director of the center, stated, "Thanks to the volunteers who dedicated their hearts and joined us as if it were their own work from the early hours of the morning, we were able to deliver warm consolation to our neighbors in need." He added, "We will continue to run on-site, customized volunteer programs to create a warm Seosan City where no neighbor is left behind."
