[사건사고/CTN]가금현 기자= 평택해양경찰서가 야간 해루질에 나섰다가 갯벌에 고립된 관광객 모자를 신속하게 구조하며 안전수칙 준수의 중요성을 강조했다.
평택해양경찰서(서장 우채명)는 20일 새벽 충남 당진시 도비도 인근 갯벌에서 길을 잃고 고립된 60대 여성과 30대 아들을 안전하게 구조했다고 밝혔다.
평택해경에 따르면 이날 오전 0시 7분께 “갯벌에서 빠져나가는 길을 찾지 못하고 있다”는 신고가 접수됐다. 구조 대상자들은 전날 밤 해루질을 위해 갯벌에 들어갔다가 방향 감각을 잃고 고립된 것으로 확인됐다.
신고를 받은 평택해경은 대산파출소 육상·해상팀과 평택구조대를 즉시 현장에 투입했다.
해경은 동력구조보드를 활용해 수색을 벌였으며, 신고 접수 약 25분 만인 오전 0시 32분께 고립된 모자를 발견해 안전하게 구조했다.
구조 당시 이들은 발이 깊게 빠지는 질퍽한 갯벌을 이동하며 체력이 크게 떨어진 상태였지만, 건강에는 이상이 없는 것으로 전해졌다.
평택해경은 서해안 특성상 조수간만의 차가 커 짧은 시간 안에도 고립 위험이 높다고 설명했다. 특히 야간 해루질은 시야 확보가 어렵고 방향 감각을 잃기 쉬워 사고 위험이 더욱 크다는 점을 강조했다.
정세희 해양안전과장은 “야간 해루질은 구조 요청 시 위치 확인에도 어려움이 따른다”며 “반드시 구명조끼를 착용하고 물때와 기상 정보를 사전에 확인한 뒤 2인 이상 함께 활동해야 한다”고 당부했다.

The stranded individuals, a woman in her 60s and her son in his 30s, were tourists who had entered the mudflats the previous night for “haerujil,” a popular Korean activity involving catching shellfish and marine creatures during low tide. They reportedly lost their sense of direction and became trapped as the tide conditions changed.
In response, the coast guard immediately dispatched land and sea patrol teams from the Daesan station along with a rescue unit. Using a powered rescue board, rescuers searched the area and located the pair at approximately 12:32 a.m., safely bringing them ashore within about 25 minutes of the report.
Officials said the two were exhausted after struggling through deep, muddy terrain where their feet repeatedly became stuck, but they did not suffer serious injuries.
The coast guard warned that the west coast’s large tidal differences can quickly create dangerous situations, especially during nighttime activities when visibility is limited.
Jeong Se-hee, head of the Maritime Safety Division, stated, “Nighttime shellfishing makes it difficult to maintain direction and also complicates rescue operations when locating callers. People should always wear life jackets, check tide schedules and weather conditions in advance, and avoid going alone.”
