지난 5월 18일 인천 하버파크호텔 세미나실에서 열린 '제1회 김문수문학상 시상식'에는 한국소설가협회 운영진을 비롯해 소설가 및 문학 관계자 90여 명이 참석해 자리를 빛냈다.
한국소설가협회는 "김문수문학상은 故 김문수 소설가의 치열했던 작가 정신을 후대 작가들에게 계승하는 한편, 한국 문학계 전반에 새로운 활력을 불어넣는 것을 목표로 삼고 있다"며 제정 취지를 밝혔다.
故 김문수 소설가는 1939년 충북 청주 출생으로, 1961년 조선일보 신춘문예로 등단한 이래 반세기 넘게 소설 창작과 후학 양성에 전념해 온 한국 문단의 대표적 인물이다.
2012년 타계 전까지 동인문학상, 현대문학상, 한국문학작가상, 대한민국문화예술상 등을 두루 수상했으며, 동국대학교와 한양여자대학교 교수로 재직하며 수많은 문인을 배출했다.

Regarding the purpose of the award, the Novelists Association of Korea stated, "The Kim Moon-soo Literary Award aims to pass down the fierce and dedicated creative spirit of the late novelist Kim Moon-soo to future generations of writers, while injecting fresh vitality into the overall Korean literary community."
Born in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do in 1939, the late novelist Kim Moon-soo made his literary debut in 1961 through the Chosun Ilbo New Spring Literary Contest. For more than half a century, he dedicated his life to writing fiction and nurturing younger writers, establishing himself as a prominent figure in the Korean literary world.
Until his passing in 2012, Kim received major domestic literary accolades, including the Dong-in Literary Award, the Contemporary Literature (Hyundai Munhak) Award, the Korean Writers' Award, and the Korea Culture and Arts Award. He also served as a professor at Dongguk University and Hanyang Women's University, training numerous future writers. The establishment of this award encourages younger writers to carry on his lifelong exploration of human dignity and to provide deep insights into society.
