[천안/CTN]강현수 기자 = 천안시가 호국보훈의 달을 앞두고 국가를 위해 헌신한 유공자와 그 가족들의 삶의 질을 높이기 위한 실질적인 보건 복지 행정에 행정력을 집중하고 있다.
시는 지난 13일 국가유공자와 보훈 가족을 대상으로 진행하는 2026년 무료 건강검진 사업 홍보에 본격적으로 나섰다고 밝혔다. 이번 사업은 국가보훈부와 한국건강관리협회가 긴밀히 협업해 추진하는 대표적인 보훈 복지 프로젝트다. 지난 2002년부터 24년간 전국적으로 총 14만 6,000여 명이 혜택을 받았을 만큼 공신력과 역사성을 동시에 갖춘 검진 프로그램으로 평가받는다.
올해 검진 대상은 전국적으로 국가유공자와 그 가족 등 1만여 명에 달한다. 검진은 호국보훈의 달의 의미를 되새기기 위해 오는 6월부터 7월까지 두 달간 집중적으로 실시된다. 참가를 희망하는 대상자는 한국건강관리협회 전국 17개 지부를 통해 전화로 사전 예약을 마친 뒤 지정된 일정에 맞춰 검진을 진행하면 된다.
특히 시는 정보 접근성이 취약해 자칫 혜택에서 소외될 수 있는 고령의 보훈 가족들을 위해 현장 밀착형 홍보를 전개한다. 관내 보훈단체 사무실에 안내문을 상시 비치하고 각종 회의 시 관련 내용을 상세히 안내하는 것은 물론, 시정 소식지와 공식 SNS 등 다각적인 채널을 총동원해 정보 사각지대를 완전히 해소한다는 방침이다.
천안시는 이번 건강검진 지원 외에도 보훈 가족에 대한 예우를 다하기 위해 참전명예수당 및 보훈명예수당 지급, 보훈단체 운영 지원 등 다양한 선양 사업을 지속적으로 확대해오고 있다. 이는 단순한 복지 지원을 넘어 국가를 위해 희생한 이들의 명예를 드높이고 그 가치를 지역 사회에 깊이 뿌리내리게 하려는 시의 확고한 시정 철학이 반영된 결과다.

On the 13th, the city announced that it has begun full-scale promotion of the "2026 Free Health Checkup Project" for national veterans and their families. This project is a representative veteran welfare project promoted through close collaboration between the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and the Korea Association of Health Promotion. It is evaluated as a checkup program with both public trust and historical significance, with a total of 146,000 people nationwide receiving benefits over the 24 years since 2002.
This year's checkup targets approximately 10,000 national veterans and their families nationwide. To reflect the meaning of the Month of Patriots and Veterans, the checkups will be conducted intensively for two months from June to July. Those who wish to participate can make a prior reservation by phone through the 17 branches of the Korea Association of Health Promotion nationwide and proceed with the checkup according to the designated schedule.
In particular, the city is developing on-site, close-contact promotion for elderly veteran families who may be alienated from benefits due to weak access to information. The plan is to completely eliminate information blind spots by constantly placing information flyers in the offices of veterans' organizations, providing detailed information during various meetings, and mobilizing various channels such as municipal newsletters and official social media.
In addition to supporting these health checkups, Cheonan City has been continuously expanding various commemorative projects, such as paying war participation honor allowances and veteran honor allowances, and supporting the operation of veterans' organizations to honor veteran families. This is a result of reflecting the city's firm philosophy of honoring those who sacrificed for the country and deeply rooting those values in the local community beyond simple welfare support.
