[CTN/사회]가금현 기자 = 충남 서산시에 사업장을 둔 기업 현대위아의 지역사회 공헌활동을 둘러싸고 시민들의 아쉬움과 비판의 목소리가 나오고 있다.
현대위아가 경남 창원시 등 타 지역에서 추진하는 사회공헌활동에 비해 서산지역에서는 상대적으로 소극적인 모습을 보이고 있다는 지적이다.
특히 서산시에는 경제적 어려움을 겪는 가정과 복지 사각지대에 놓인 이웃들이 적지 않은 만큼, 지역에 입주한 대기업이 지역사회에 대한 사회적 책임을 더욱 적극적으로 실천해야 한다는 목소리가 커지고 있다.
서산시민들은 기업이 지역에 공장을 운영하고 경제활동을 하는 만큼, 지역사회와 상생하는 사회공헌활동에도 관심을 가져야 한다고 주장하고 있다.
기업의 사회공헌은 단순한 기부를 넘어 지역 내 어려운 이웃을 돕고, 취약계층의 생활 안정과 복지 향상에 기여하는 중요한 사회적 책임이다.
한 서산시민은 "서산에도 경제적으로 어려운 가정과 도움의 손길이 필요한 이웃들이 많다"며 "지역에 사업장을 둔 대기업이 지역사회와 함께 성장한다는 자세로 사회공헌에 나서야 한다"고 말했다.
또 다른 시민은 "다른 지역에서는 기업의 사회공헌활동이 활발하게 이뤄진다는 소식을 접하는데, 정작 서산에서는 시민들이 체감할 수 있는 활동이 얼마나 이뤄지고 있는지 궁금하다"며 "지역을 위한 적극적인 관심과 지원이 필요하다"고 지적했다.
현대위아는 창원시를 비롯한 여러 지역에서 사회공헌 및 지역사회 지원활동을 추진해 오고 있는 기업이지만 서산시자원봉사센터 등을 통한 사회공헌활동 현황은 확인되지 않고 있는 실정이다.
실제로 현대위아의 타 지역 사회공헌활동은 여러 매체 보도를 통해 확인할 수 있으나 서산시에서의 활동은 2023년 서산시 사회복지시설 및 단체에 드림카 2대 전달소식 이후 눈에 띄지않는다.
서산시는 산업도시로서 여러 대기업과 기업체가 입주해 지역경제 발전에 기여하고 있다.
특히 한화토탈에너지스, HD현대오일뱅크, 현대트랜시스 등은 서산시자원봉사센터와 함께 취약계층을 위한 봉사프로그램을 지속적으로 운영하며, 독거노인, 저소득 가정, 취약계층 아동 등 도움이 필요한 이웃들을 위한 사회공헌활동을 통해 지역사회 통합과 상생에 중요한 역할을 수행하고 있다.

One Seosan resident said:“There are many economically disadvantaged families and neighbors in Seosan who need a helping hand. Major companies operating businesses here should engage in social contribution activities with the attitude that they are growing together with the local community.”
Another resident expressed concern, saying:“We hear about companies actively carrying out social contribution activities in other regions, but we wonder how much is actually being done in Seosan that citizens can experience and benefit from. More active interest and support for the local community are needed.”
Hyundai WIA has carried out social contribution and community support activities in several regions, including Changwon. However, its social contribution activities in Seosan through organizations such as the Seosan Volunteer Center could not be confirmed at the time of reporting.
