[해수부/CTN]가요진 기자= 황종우 해양수산부 장관이 유엔해양총회 개최도시 선정을 발표하며 "제4차 유엔해양총회에 큰 관심을 가지고 유치를 신청해 주신 부산광역시와 제주특별자치도에 깊이 감사드린다"라며 "앞으로 부산광역시 및 관계 기관과 긴밀히 협력하여 대한민국의 해양 역량을 세계에 알리고 지속가능한 해양을 위한 국제협력을 선도하는 성공적인 총회가 되도록 철저히 준비하겠다"라고 밝혔다. 해양수산부(장관 황종우)는 2028년 우리나라에서 열리는 제4차 유엔해양총회 개최도시로 부산광역시를 선정했다고 8월 11일 발표했다.
해수부에 따르면 선정위원회는 유치를 신청한 부산광역시와 제주특별자치도를 심사한 결과 해양 산업과 연구 인프라가 집적된 부산을 최적지로 판단했다.
UN해양총회는 UN 지속가능발전목표 14번 이행을 위해 3년 주기로 열리는 해양 분야 최대 규모의 정상급 국제회의다. 2028년 총회에는 193개 UN 회원국과 국제기구 등에서 약 2만 명이 참석할 예정이다. 개최도시는 국무총리 주재 준비위원회 의결과 올해 말 UN총회 결의안 반영을 거쳐 확정된다. 한편 위원회는 탈락한 제주에서도 2027년과 2028년 사전 특별행사가 열릴 수 있도록 준비위원회에 건의하기로 결정했다고 덧붙였다.
