Dangjin Mayor Oh Seong-hwan Unveils Minseon 9th Term 'Construction, Transportation, Parks, and Safety' Roadmap
- Fourth part of the '1-5-100 Master Plan' announced... Innovating citizens' quality of life through world-class infrastructure
- Full-scale expansion of major road networks including the 2nd Seohae Grand Bridge and National Route 32 Bypass
- Realizing 'healing green spaces' in the city center by establishing a signature lake park and natural recreation forest
- Designing a tight citizen safety net available 24/7/365 with smart flood management and pedestrian environment maintenance

[CTN / Reporter Ga Geum-hyun] Detailed pledges in the fields of 'Construction, Transportation, Parks, and Safety' that will drastically reshape the future landscape of Dangjin City have been officially disclosed, reported Reporter Ga Geum-hyun of CTN, South Korea¡¯s leading internet newspaper.

This announcement encapsulates the urban infrastructure innovation roadmap spearheaded by Dangjin Mayor Oh Seong-hwan, marking the fourth installment of the "1-5-100 Master Plan," the core vision of the Minseon 9th term.

The plan features a wide array of practical tasks aimed at resolving chronic traffic congestion and organically linking transportation with community-tailored welfare directly connected to citizens' daily lives.

First, large-scale infrastructure projects will be fully mobilized to address chronic traffic bottlenecks in Dangjin and maximize connectivity between regions.

The city plans to push forward with the construction of the 8.3-kilometer-long '2nd Seohae Grand Bridge connecting Anseom Port to Ujeong-eup, Pyeongtaek City,' effectively dispersing the extreme traffic volume on the Seohaean Expressway. Approximately 750 billion KRW will be invested in this project.

The 'National Route 32 Bypass Construction' project, which was selected for the preliminary feasibility study in January 2025, is currently undergoing a feasibility review by the Korea Development Institute (KDI). To alleviate chronic traffic stagnation, the city is concentrating its administrative capabilities with the goal of passing the main project evaluation by this July.

In tandem with this, the 'Provincial Road 609 Four-Lane Widening and Paving' project—which upgrades City Road 1, connecting the Myeoncheon IC to downtown Dangjin—has completed its design phase by Chungcheongnam-do Province and is awaiting an early groundbreaking.

The 'Odo-Dangjin Road Four-Lane Widening and Paving' project (spanning approximately 7.8 km), which integrates and promotes the existing City Roads 15 and 16 into City Road 1, is also gaining momentum.

The 'Goda-Wudu-dong New Road Construction,' linking Godae Yongdu-ri to Dangjin 3-dong (Wudu-dong), has already completed its designation as a statutory road. Furthermore, through the 'Ugang Songsan District Land Use Zone Change,' the city will conduct district unit reorganizations, upgrading the area to a semi-residential zone to fully drive up floor area ratios and building coverage ratios, thereby stimulating local regional development.

Detail-oriented transportation policies tailored to citizens' needs have also been laid out to eliminate the inconvenience of daily commuting.

To resolve the shortage of buses during the last hours of weekends and holidays, the city will pursue increasing the number of buses heading to the Gangnam Express Bus Terminal. Additionally, to ease parking difficulties around apartment complexes caused by growing vehicle numbers, idle lands will be secured to establish massive 'public parking lots for each apartment complex.'

Furthermore, in response to urban expansion driven by continuous city development, 'downtown shuttle bus lines' will be expanded. The city also plans to fully ensure the mobility of elderly residents in rural areas by expanding routes and increasing the operation of the 'Happiness Bus,' a public transit service that has received enthusiastic responses from transit-vulnerable and remote residents.

Strategies for constructing large-scale, eco-friendly green spaces have been solidified to provide citizens with high-quality leisure and relaxation.

The 'Signature Lake Park Project,' which is currently undergoing detailed design with a compensation fund of approximately 300 billion KRW already deployed, is gaining traction. The interior of the park will be packed with various complex cultural and convenience facilities, including a kids' café, a musical fountain, a children's playground, a cultural center, a library, and a dog park.

A 16,000-pyeong (approx. 52,800§³) 'Signature Park' will be pushed forward in Dangjin Districts 3 and 4 (Wudu-dong), where green areas have already been secured. In the area of Sudang-ri, Jeongmi-myeon, a 'Natural Recreation Forest and Healing Forest' will be established—featuring a recreation forest of about 55 hectares and a healing forest of about 50 hectares—creating a healing hub that combines accommodation, relaxation, and therapy.

In the area of Okhyeon-ri, Godae-myeon, a 'Provincial Garden' spanning 185,455 square meters will be developed, showcasing an ecological garden organically linked with the adjacent Samseonsan Arboretum. Reflecting the latest well-being trends, the city will implement the 'Expansion of Barefoot Walking Trails' based on applications from each town, township, and neighborhood (Eup, Myeon, Dong), providing convenience facilities such as red clay trails and foot-washing stations simultaneously.

A watertight, preemptive disaster prevention system has been meticulously designed to respond to climate change and safeguard citizens' lives and property.

For the 'Sapgyo Lake Dredging' project, for which the city is directly conducting a research study to prevent chronic inundation and flood damage, the city plans to officially request dredging from the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to secure national funding as soon as the results are available.

Concurrently, a 'Smart Flood Management System' will be introduced to major rivers such as Sapgyo Lake, Namwon Stream, and Yeok Stream, establishing automated sluice gate management systems to swiftly respond to sudden torrential downpours and disasters. Through a 'Comprehensive Overhaul of the Pedestrian Environment' that places the highest priority on vulnerable pedestrians like children and senior citizens, the city will completely renovate aging sidewalk blocks and safety fences across the entire city to prevent traffic accidents in advance.

Dangjin Mayor Oh Seong-hwan emphasized, "Construction, transportation, parks, and safety are the fundamental and core tasks most closely linked to citizens' everyday lives." He expressed strong determination, adding, "Going beyond simple development, we will reshape the map of Dangjin through tailored infrastructure innovations that unblock congested areas and fill in deficiencies, ultimately completing a world-class city where everyone can enjoy a safe and affluent life."
